Rats in Party Clothes

Yep, you're right they're just dressed up rats. Today in the studio we thought we had to replace a quarter of the studio's insulation but after ripping off plywood our worst nightmare was realized. The rats with bushy tails had completely destroyed the other front section of the studio. The plywood has been nailed up with a power nailer so it is not a fun job. Once you get a good hold on a piece you are covered with chewed up fibre glass.

I heard in the southern US they eat those critters. Here in squirrel hugging territory you'd do hard time for chasing one with a water pistol.  I love all kinds of nuts so I don't know why I wouldn't want one on the grill, with some mixed veggies and  chased with a glass of Chardonnay. Please send squirrel recipes.

Bake til tender then bread it and fry it or use as stew meat.In Kentucky the brains are a delicacy but also a health hazard.skip 'em if you have more brains than the squirrel.

Yayyyyyyy!!! Someone who hates squirrels too! They got into an attic of our seasonal house once! Arrrggghhh! I put goat food out on the stone walls to keep them away from the house and bird feeders. I figure we will have nicely fattened roasts if the balloon goes up!

Traditional 18th century American soup/stew "Brunswick Stew", was made with squirrel, chicken, lima beans, tomatoes. I had it in Williamsburg decades ago and it was delicious; but probably made with chicken instead of squirrel.
we have been battling the squirrels in our studio as well... i get so irritated when people talk about how cute they are. once you have had to endure the sound of them chewing your attic, insulation, and wires while you are working they are far from cute. it seems most states have strict rules on how you can get rid of them.

If you search under the RiverCottage and add Squirrels in their search menu, up comes a tasty looking recipe for "Butterflied Grilled Squirrel". The top ingredient is "4 whole squirrels, flattened", doesn't say if that is under the wheels of your car or with a big hammer......

I have had red, black & brown squirrels, raccoons and this year I think an opossum is trying to move into my studio. Buggers all!
