Don't ever give up!

Here is a picture of the first piece of pottery I ever bought. I remember it being very expensive compared to other potters pots. The cup is by Ed Drahanchuk who was a Alberta potter and was very prolific on the Canadian clay scene. His work was very recognizable because of the beautiful clay body, his dry ash glazes and the handsome wax resist decoration. I believe these two pieces are of prairie crocus. I still use the cup to this day even though it is cracked and chipped. It has a comfortable lip and takes me back to my youth and my early examination of pots. 

 A potters nightmare has it that he lost some fingers to a lawnmower which ended the clay career. But if you are an artist you find another way to express yourself. He moved to the west coast of British Columbia and started painting. His paintings are very beautiful. So the lesson is to never give up. 

The jug is rather dated in the shape and handle placement but it still stands out with an identity that could be seen across the room. The jug is dated 1976 which is the year I went to The Banff School of Fine Arts and had the wonderful good luck to have F. Carleton Ball as my instructor. Carleton had the cabin next door so we swapped dinner invites. He was an amazing cook. He was also very encouraging of us young upstarts. Linda Christianson was the tech for the program and it where we first became friends. Amazing some 44 years ago.  Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana.
