I've been rather inabsentia the past little while. It's not as if I have been sleeping under the big ole willow tree. Home from 3 months in Portugal, got ready for Ash and Barrel Show in Toronto and then days later off to NC Potters Conference. Did I mention with all of this I had Covid, melanoma surgery on my noggin and crashed my beloved bike. It is supposed to happen in three's but I notice my phone screen is cracked from a fall on the floor last night.
The NC Potters Conference was a big high five. So many great people, so many interesting pots and lectures. If I had a blue vest I'd work for Walmart. Man there are some awesome makers out there.
Wanna give a shout out to two of my favourite NC potters and makers. Firstly, Ben OwenIII. Ben is one of the finest people to walk the earth. He opened his studio, kiln and heart to all that participated in his 100 hour anagama firing. Ben is like an orchestra conductor when it comes to firing his kiln. His kiln and business run like a finely tuned machine. Thank you Ben for your open arms.

And then there is the quiet reclusive Donna Craven. Donna ducks praise. Without exception every NC potter you talk to takes a bow to Donna. Such strong work from a little biddy 90 lb soaking wet woman. I helped Donna and Susan fire their kiln and Donna
knows how to call the fire.
Needless I am say I am very pleased to have their company in The Cactus Lounge. I'll be talking to each of them for a few days. I haven't come down yet.
