Random Act of Kindness
I have an awesome personal relationship with the front line employees at Meridian Credit Union in my town Aylmer, Ontario. In fact after 8 years living here I think they are the only people in town that know my name. We know each other and all have dropped by my home at Christmas for my informal sale. I am sure each year to drop off 6 bags of pots for under their tree. I love to give. An artist should live their lives generously. Ya give and ya get!
One of the former tellers now Loans/Mortgage Specialist Becca Smith asked me if she could paint me as she thought I had an interesting face. Actually I think it is the colourful eye glasses that I wear that her son Ben also wears. Ben and I share the same good taste and the same birth date. He must be a really cool dude with a really awesome mum!!!
Becca emailed me to tell me my portrait was ready. I was afraid to see myself. Not doubting her talent just wondering how I would look. I was blown away! I was so taken aback I forgot to ask Becca if she had Art School training. Man she sure captured my penitrating eyes and caterpiller eyebrows.
Becca's portrait is her rendition of a portrait taken by undergraduate student Cody Bell when I was doing my Mfa at Utah State. I wonder what Cody is doing now?
All these amazingly talented people we deal with each day and we only know a fraction of what they are and what they are capable of. Today I was reminded that we are so much more than a banker, a potter,a welder,a teacher. We are so much more than the labels that define us. Becca I am blown away by your amazing talent and your kindness. Thank you! Hey Ben, you are one lucky little dude! T

We never know what or who the people are that we meet in "ordinary" jobs
