Givers and takers

This week I experienced a week of givers. People that are generous. I got a beautiful charcuterie board from my friend Christine "Woodstock" Torres as well as a jar of F'ing amazing dill pickles. From London Potters Guild Crazy Cathy a beautiful orchid, and from C2C Gallery a beautiful porcelain chawan by one of my favourite people Judi Dyelle. I did an interview with Cyndi of C2C and she had Judi send me the cup. Some peope are born with class. I heard second hand that I was too social and too generous to be successful in business. Hmmm, ain't that interesting. I really don't know what to think about that. Stop being generous and stop being kind to people and I will be successful. No thanks! I'd rather have these small pleasures than be a successful businessman. What is success? Come on my readers fill me in. I thnk I have it and it isn't a bank deposit. Course in Portugal is looking good. I'm sooooo excited . I will give all I have and you can take that to the bank. Hugs, T

Among the rich you will never find a really generous man even by accident. They may give their money away, but they will never give themselves away; they are egotistic, secretive, dry as old bones. To be smart enough to get all that money you must be dull enough to want it.

If nature has made you for a giver, your hands are born open, and so is your heart; and though there may be times when your hands are empty, your heart is always full, and you can give things out of that—warm things, kind things, sweet things—help and comfort and laughter—and sometimes gay, kind laughter is the best help of all.

Givers need set limits because takers rarely do.

So if givers are most likely to land at the bottom of the success ladder, who’s at the top—takers or matchers? Neither. When I took another look at the data, I discovered a surprising pattern: It’s the givers again.

When takers win, there’s usually someone else who loses. Research shows that people tend to envy successful takers and look for ways to knock them down a notch. In contrast, when givers win, people are rooting for them and supporting them, rather than gunning for them. Givers succeed in a way that creates a ripple effect, enhancing the success of people around them.

AG, exactly. Being a giver feels so good. Takers come in all colors, sizes and shapes. Interestingly most givers don’t realize they are givers until told they are. It’s not about material things, it’s about feelings and caring, doing the right and kind thing. J

My father said there were two kinds of people in the world: givers and takers. The takers may eat better, but the givers sleep better.

The Surprising Psychology of Givers, Takers, and Matchers

Take the quiz, are you a giver or a taker?

https://www.lemonade.com/blog/psychology-givers-takers-matchers-2/

I knew a matcher once, more like a score keeper, if you owed him a favor for more than one day he would break out in a sweat and later panic. A couple of times, he knocked on my door the next day to use the bathroom, just to collect on that favor I owed him.

I believe the world is divided in three groups: givers, takers and the few that can balance both impulses. Giving and loving is a beautiful thing. It is the currency of compassion and kindness, it is what separates good people from the rest. And without it, the world would be a bleak place. If you are a giver, it is wise to define your boundaries because takers will take what you allow them to; all givers must learn to protect that about themselves or eventually, there is nothing left to give.

the Mary Fox Legacy Project

https://www.maryfoxpottery.ca/legacy/

Mary Fox sees the Legacy Project as a chance for a young artist to have the time and space to develop their skills and live the life of a studio potter. They could sell the work they produce through the gallery and by the end of their residency they should know whether the life of a studio potter is for them. If it is, hopefully, they will have been able to save enough to go on and start a pottery of their own.

You have one chance for a first impression. Do it well or you can screw everything up. Plus if you are the giver you want to do it right. Takers don’t give a rats ass who they insult. Givers do. Big difference there. Be the good one not the ass.
