I'm disturbed!

Once a year I buy a piece of Art that is just for me. Not there is anyone else that lives here but it is a bit of a small Art indulgence that I have seen and can't get out of my mind. I do of course buy other things but these are ones that mess with my mind. They can't leave me alone.

This year Cary Hulin is to blame. Cary knows I like fine craft and I also have carried a folding pocket knife since I was in Cubs, Scouts and Rovers. I have had owned Buck, Spyderco, Kersaw and Leatherman.  Sadly never a Randall. Cary kept sending me pictures of folding pocket knives handmade by Michael May of Sheffield, England.  It's like landing a well presented fly in front of a big trout. What a thing of beauty! I love the spine detail that extends into the blade. It closes like a vault door snapped shut. May was my grand fathers surname- John Profit May. Grandpa carried a gold watch in his breast pocket. I carry a pocket knife. It is amazing how many times during a day you can find to use it. Go ahead Tony treat yourself like someone you love!

Last year I saw this sculptural piece by Micheal Barber at Shane Norrie Contemporary and couldn't get it out of my mind. I drove home disturbed. Once inside the door at home I phoned and put it on layaway. Go ahead Tony treat yourself like someone you love!

Three years ago I was one of the presenters at the North Carolina Potters Conference. I love folk art and outsider art especially. I saw this piece by J. Payne at Crystal King Pottery. I left without it and flew home. The following week I was meeting Doc in Kansas City for NCECA. I phoned Crystal and had her ship it to our hotel. It is one of the wildest paintings I've ever seen. Normally I would walk right past something like this but somehow it messed with my mind.  Go ahead Tony treat yourself like someone you love.

Art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed. I guess I'm disturbed and damn it feels good.

Beautiful knife! Really nice turquoise can be hard to come by, the pieces I have, I bought 20 years ago, including that piece in the ring I sent you. It definitely increases in value the rarer it is. Turquoise is amazing, but it’s quantity is finite. Something for us all to think about. You have a fine specimen on your finger!

After 4 years of the bull shit piling up deep and high, I'm surprised there wasn't more flies attracted to Mike Pence.
