Colour Anarchy

With this shut in of COVID the mailbox is the source of your greatest daily joy and when it's empty such a disappointment. This morning such a lovely surprise from my buddy Heather Smit aka The Handbuilder. Heather sent me these perfectly rad neon biking socks and Kent McLauglin brushes to match. I put all this together on my bed covered in biking attire and I feel like a colour anarchist. The colours I allow myself to wear makes me feel like a Newfoundland quilt. My little grand daughter Ju-ju is a colour anarchist. Who is learning from who? Heather has suprised me on several occassions with her thoughfulness and love. Once after a firing she hung one of her scoops in my bathroom. About 2 weeks later my daughter was visiting and said "Hey Dad, when did ya get the awesome scoop by Heather?" What scoop was my answer? The firing crew had been laughing for weeks that I must sit on the throne and read my phone. Ha. I read everything else- toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo bottles but not my phone. After another firing she hung an axe and chainsaw in my hall. Once again two weeks later Robin visits and says "Dad, when did you get this awesome framed axe and chainsaw?" This time I answered " Well, that little Smit did it again!" So this was this weeks horoscope. "Aries, because the coming weeks will be a favorable time to honor and celebrate the marvelously rich stories of your own life—and to feel gratitude for the full range of experience with which they have blessed you." Dear Horoscope: I don't need a couple of weeks to think about it. I am blessed with such loving and wonderful friends. I am the richest man in my house. Hey Heather I dare ya to put together colours on your pots to equal that Fogo Island green and corral coloured gravel bike you just bought. Double dare, ya! Lid up and let's do a ride.

If the colour red in motion makes bulls aggressive, do you have to worry about wolves and coyotes while you ride your bicycle through the woods?

An artist trading card (or ATC for short) is a tiny, original piece of art created with the intention of swapping or trading it with another artist.

An ATC must be 2.5x3.5 inches or 64x89 mm.

On the front of an ATC, an artist creates an original work to showcase their art. It can be a one-off, part of a series, or a limited edition. On the back, the artist puts their name, contact details, title of the ATC, number if it's a limited edition, and sometimes the date it was created.

Artist trading cards can be made in any medium and using any technique, whether it's painting, drawing, or collage.

ARTIST MENTORSHIP
ONE ON ONE ART GUIDANCE SESSIONS
I've launched a new program designed to assist with the various goals artists might have. Mentorship means different things to different people. Sometimes you need a bit of one on one time with a professional artist for aesthetic advice, maybe you need a bit of technical advice to get you through a project. Others might need a bit of inspiration or creative exercises to get those artsy juices flowing. This program will allow you some one on one time with me via video chats, phone and/or emails to work through some of these artist dilemmas that you might need assistance with.

Here are some suggested rules for commentators on your blog.

Group Rules from the Admins
1. Rules
While there are no rules in ceramics and pottery, there are a few guidelines for commenting on this blog.
2. Play Nice
First and foremost, always play nice in my playground.
3. Be Positive
This blog is about creativity, positivity and inclusivity. All are welcome if that remains the focus.
4. None of These
Please, no politics, fart jokes, overt self-promotion, direct sales, store links, general calls for art for exhibitions, and the usual blah-blah-blah that is typically frowned upon in blogs.
5. If You Break Em
Comments and members will be removed if they are not in accordance with these guidelines.
6. The Focus
As this is a Tony Clennell blog, I would love for you to post work inspired by me, or made in my workshops, praise me and my work, and worship me as your Ceramic God. But that being said, anything creative goes. And if you aren't sure...message me and ask. I will happily answer.

Is that Ceramic God with a capital "G", or ceramic god with a small "g"?

A kiln god/goddess is created by the potter to be placed near the kiln opening. In ancient Chinese and Egyptian cultures, these little statues were thought to be safe keepers of the pots. The craftspeople of the time did not know what caused certain issues with pottery: crazing, cracking, pinholes, and explosions.

Western kiln gods are most often displayed on the roof of a kiln just over the kiln door where they can “watch” over the firing. The kiln gods of China are generally positioned in their own dedicated Taoist or “folk religion” temple or shrine, located near the kiln.

I'm making my T.C. kiln god right now!
