Who Do You Love?

I walked 47 miles of barbed wire, use a cobra snake for a necktie
Got a brand new house on the roadside made from rattlesnake hide
Got a brand new chimney made on top made from a human skull
These are lyrics from Who Do You Love by Canada’s Rompin’ Ronnie Hawkins and The Hawks. Ronnie’s band worked 365 nights a year in every bar and hotel from here to kingdom come. Hawkins was something of a talent scout as his band members went on to form some killer bands. The most successful being The Band and others include Robbie Lane and Disciples, Janis Joplin’s Full Tilt Boogie Band, Crowbar, Bearfoot to name a few. I heard The Hawk interviewed and he said although he was good friends with John Lennon he would not have cut it with his band. Not good enough a guitar player.
So who do you love? I love my Honda’s. My snow blower started this morning with one pull after sitting idle for 3 seasons. My Husqvarna lawnmower powered with a Honda motor always starts first pull. My little Honda CRV took me through the mountains of West Virginia last January in the midst of a snow storm. The roads were littered with cars in the ditch and Bob the Honda took me home safely to The Promised Land. This blog post is sent out to my buddy Doc to answer his question how do you get better at brushwork? Firstly- Hitch yourself to someone that expects more from you. Secondly-  work 365 days a year like Ronnie made The Hawks do. They didn’t like him cause he drove them hard but all that practice made them champions for life. Thirdly- invest in quality products whether it be brushes, tools or equipment. Treat them well, use them wisely and they’ll get ya home in a storm.

Hate to say it but those are lyrics by Bo Diddley and Hawkins covered it. Love a hard working band but Bo Diddley is the man.
