Doesn’t Glaze Just Appear in a Bag

Today we took a long ride out in the country to visit a glaze maker. He makes a limestone glaze material by burning lime and ferns together.
He had a pile of lime that when I went to pick up a piece I just about burned myself. He had poured water on it and it was snap, crackling and popping into a finer mesh size. He then took that material and screened it onto a bed of dry ferns (bracken), another layer of bracken, some more lime, more bracken, more lime etc, etc . He then light the bracken on fire . The huge pile that you see is the glaze material that will be sold to the potters of Jingdezhen.
